(Post 32) Planning- Sound

  • Any diegetic sound that occurs as part of your idea?
Diagetic sound is sound from a certain film or video whose source is visible on the screen or whose source is implied to be present by the action of the film. Diagetic sound is used in our music video at the start to imply a argument that holds importance but more so narrative to help the story line be understood by the audience. This is implemented by an argument of them shouting and hurling abuse towards one another to show there strong feelings and a form of relationship between them and help understand their role in the music video.

  • Any Foley sound that needs to be recorded as part of your idea?
Foley sound is  the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to film or video in post-production to enhance audio quality

  • Any lip-syncing that needs to be done as part of your idea?
yes. we use lip syncing a minimal amount to help engage the actors with the song and make
them look apart of the music video to look more professional but more so realistic and powerful
and also show creativity. It is difficult to produce but with only small amounts we can perfect this
and use our strengths in other elements such as camera angles or Mise-en-scene.

post 30 - planning props

List of props needed for our music video...

Our music  video will be rather synthetic and natural therefore props are not a necessity and our primary focus is on setting and character as the props hold little influence and importance towards the music video. However certain props such as textbooks and test tubes and lab coats will be present as the setting is school and these props help create a realistic and natural look to set the scene.

Images of props needed...

youtube tutorials for the props

the props are finalised products which need no making or designed therefore videos to make these products are not needed.

images of us buying the products

the images are already available and present as they are property of the school from which we do not need to buy any products or props for our music video

POST 29 - (PLANNING) COSTUME AND MAKEUP

For our music video, we have decided that to fit our story line best, both characters will wear casual clothes in every scene. They will be wearing different types of casual clothes in different scenes to show different time periods of past and present. We do not have any makeup within our music video other than what the female character would usually wear when they'll be out. Overall, we do not have set costume and makeup other than what the characters would usually where in the situations and setting they are in during the video.

Post 28 - planning (casting and characters)

OUR ADUITION DIALOG/ACTING.

FINAL CHARCTERS CHOICES WITH CHARACTER PROFILE.

We would love to use Will Ward and Rachel Lowe for our music video as well as a few more friends as extras to make filming easier and more realistic for certain scenes and settings.

REASONS FOR CHOOSING THESE PEOPLE.

We have chose these two people as they we used as our characters in the practice cast and performed extremely well making filming easy. We  believe that by using these two the music video will look very realistic as their relationship in real life and the way they are around each other is what we want to represent in our video. We believe that having friends as extras will benefit us hugely as in our practice, scenes didn't look real as they were doing thing like class experiments by themselves with no classmates around, which we hope to avoid this time.

Post 27 - planning (setting)

what do you understand by the term 'Setting'?

The term setting implies the place or surrounding areas where an event is taking place. For example, the setting could be a town centre or a forest. This is a crucial element to help the audience understand our video as it creates a location and meaning to the story.

What settings do you want to use in your video? Keep in mind that setting can refer to 1) The
time of day/season/year/decade/era and of course the actual physical locations. For example,
a bedroom or a shopping centre are as much a 'setting' as The Middle Ages, or during WW2
or the future.

The setting we want to use for our music video is rather simple yet effective as it links well and helps
the audience understand age and the story line. Our setting is school and classrooms and areas within
which works naturally with teenage school pupil actors in a romantic story line within school hours of
9-3pm. the year is present time so all props, casting and setting is a modern set up with the time the
audience watch this such as the 21st century. the specific settings are classrooms, hallways, a bench in a
courtyard and a science classroom where experiments are taking place.

Why are you wanting to create these settings? How will they create a mise-en-scene? How are they at all relevant to the style of music and lyrics?

The arrangement of everything that appears in the framing – actors, lighting, decor, props, costume – is called mise-en-scène, a French term that means “placing on stage.” The frame and camerawork are also considered part of the mise-en-scène of a movie. The setting of the school and classrooms etc are strategically  implemented to creating a story line more naturally with teenage characters so the realism is more effective moreover, this will fit in a romantic style of music as the pace and rhythm of the song relates to a romantic school relationships who's actions and story line relate directly to the lyrics.

Document organisation of your settings, eg-screen grab emails booking locations etc.

With our settings both free and accessible in school time before 9 - 3pm we are able to film without permission and acceptance or booking as we are pupils with free access to all school areas between school times in school term, Monday to Friday without consent.

post 26 - Planning- Script/Stage directions/ Plot outline

POST 25 - AUDIENCE RESEARCH FINDINGS FEEDBACK

From our audience research, we gathered lots of information as to what people want from a music video. Firstly, to attract people to watch our video in the first place, we are going to use a well know, liked song. Then, to keep people engaged and enjoy the video, we will have a story line based around the lyrics of the song. We feel this is best as every single person we asked said they preferred us to have a storyline rather than a random generic performance. If we were to advertise our music video, we would create social media posts that people could share if they like the video so their friends can see it. with the amount of people online nowadays - especially our target audience, we feel this could be a great success attracting and reaching lots of people to watch our video.

Post 23 - Audience Research

  • What are you trying to find out in your audience research?
We are trying to find the best primary research in order to find what our music video needs to meet the needs of our target audience and consumers and be the        best it can be in terms of professionalism, originality and meeting the standards of our consumers competing with professional and top quality music videos            from  major artists.

  • What questions are you going to ask to get these answers?

What would you as a consumer want from a music video?
For people your age, what makes a music video stand out?
What platforms do you watch music videos on?
Do you prefer a story line to a music video or do you prefer a random generic performance?

  • What age bracket are you looking to focus on specifically? Why?
  • 15-24 year old, as they are the majority audience and consumer bracket but more so, are mostly interested in music and the alternative music genre.

Post 22 - forms and conventions

In what ways will your music video use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of other existing music video's?

using similar conventions used in my favourite music videos and developing successful conventions.

My music video will develop and entail the use of creative and fasts cuts in the music video which is a convention of pop music as it correlates with the fast pace music and an exciting music video. Using this convention will be important  as we know this is a successful technique used and is used by professionals for top quality music videos involving the genre of pop.

Moreover, the use of genre characteristics will also be applicable to our music video as we will develop this form and convention to make our video have the most professional effect and quality used as possible. By using a slow pace cut time and a slow story, this will correspond with a romantic style of music possibly a pop song or of the alternative music genre. We will include slow cuts and simple music video story line to help indulge the audience and help youth and elderly understand and enjoy it as it will be a fun pop song chosen with a romantic feeling relating to the audience of their past or for youth maybe their current self or their future.

We as a pair will also explore the relationships between lyrics and visuals by developing the use of lip syncing and close ups of individual characters to show importance and relevance of a character to a song to help the relation and understanding for an audience. We will use lip syncing in our final piece as we used it in a practise task it it became a success and was fun as it proved our video good quality but more so, more professional and creative as it showed we overcame difficult tasks.

Another convention used for majority of music genres such as pop or alternative or even rap is the close up of the main character to show their importance within the music video and the song to help understand and enjoy the song more. Normally, these characters are attractive or relatable to help the audience feel more positive on the music video and gain it more support. We will use a relatable character or couple with the song as we will use romance and a couple to help the audience relate to the music video and reminisce or feel optimistic on the happy ending story line.

We will develop relationships with lyrics and songs by using lip-sync and actions to match lyrics. This means when lyrics contain actions or instructions the characters will implement this and almost play the lyrics like a script showing importance and relevance towards the song which also portrays creativity and quality as well as professionalism. we will also develop lip syncing to show creativity and show we have quality within our project.

However, we will challenge the fast cuts as we believe slower  cuts will be more fundamental for our project and work better and be of better quality for a slower pop song with a romantic theme. by challenging this we show originality and creativity to go beyond and improve conventions to our advantage despite the risk. We hope slower cuts will help build a greater understanding of the story line and the relationship between the song and the music video.

Since childhood, i grew up listening to music and watching music videos whilst procrastinating in my spare time. By being heavily influenced by major artists and impressive music directors such as Warren Fu, I watched many videos and gained a greater experience within music videos and a greater understanding of the importance of them and the target audience.

I will demonstrate my inspiration by using the same conventions used by Warren Fu such as futurism and relationship between lyrics and visuals to integrate a top quality music video on the developed forms and conventions. This will show creativity but personal drive to achieve a successful video whilst being influenced by many individuals.

Post 21 - Independent study into an existing short film or music video director

Independent study into an existing short film or music video director...

For this post, I have chosen to investigate a music video director who goes by the name of Warren Fu. spending a lot of time from youth listening and watching music videos i gained a wider interest in music for the artists he directed for, therefore I know i will have a good amount of knowledge and interest for this topic of work.

Post 20 - final practise video task

POST 20 - FINAL PRACTICE VIDEO TASK

We were given the task to create a one minute music video of original footage. We were put into groups and given a choice of a number of songs to choose from. We had to either do a music video in one take or one in the style of director Wes Anderson.

Here is a Wes Anderson Music Video...
Here you can see Wesley has a specific style to his music video. With an Indie or Alternative style of music he uses a abnormal and quirky conventions to match the genre but also create originality and creativity within his style to help with recognition as you can link his style to his name as it stands out more than other styled music videos. He uses one or two characters and also the use of giving objects life form but alternatively only one or two protagonists. More so, the characters get most of the screen time and fill the whole camera angle to show their importance. He Also uses a story line to create purpose but also a mini film which co-insides with the music.

We chose to do a one take music video to She's So Lovely- Scouting For Girls

We did some research into one take music videos. OK Go are a band who are known famously for their one take music videos. We watched a number if their music videos looking for inspiration for ideas and the motivation they have to get everything absolutely perfect in one take. Some of the OK go videos we looked at are:

OK Go- This Too Shall Pass

OK Go- Here it Goes Again

OK Go- Needing/Getting

For our own video we actually used our first idea of a girl sitting on a bench and a guy is admired by her so goes over.

Here is our One take music video inspired by Scouting for girls:

Wonderwall Lyric meaning

WONDERWALL LYRICS MEANING

Noel Gallagher has given conflicting stories of who this song is about. He told NME in 1996 that it was about his then-girlfriend Meg Matthews, but in 2001 explained that it was really about “an imaginary friend who’s gonna come and save you from yourself.”

Liam Gallagher says that a wonderwall can be anything. It’s just a beautiful word. It’s like looking for that bus ticket, and you’re trying to find it, and you finally find it and you pull it out, ‘mega, that is me wonderwall’
