post 17 - Ancillary task 2

We were tasked with recreating this Rihanna album cover:

To do this, we took a medium shot picture of a person. This is our original picture:

The picture was similar, but we needed a lot of editing to make it more like the album art. To do this, we first, made it black and white, and enhanced the shadows, and contouring on her jaw. Then, we removed stray hairs, and made her hair neater, to match the album art better. Next, we re-coloured her lips, making them black, as if she was wearing lipstick.Rather than giving her makeup before editing, we edited it on, as we were doing this at the beginning of the day, and she didn't want to wear black lipstick all day (and we didn't have any to hand). Finally, I smoothed her skin, to give her the flawlessness that the original has. This made it look a little blurred, and lost the quality of the picture, but this was similar to the Rihanna's album art, as hers was all the same skin tone, and blurred. I added in the 'R', and was done. This is the final practice:

It isn't a perfect replication, as there are some aspects missing (the jewelry). I tried to edit these in, but wan't able to without it looking unrealistic. Overall, this was my first ever try on Photoshop, so it was quite difficult at first, but in the end I enjoyed the challenge, and thought the final piece was okay for a first try.
